The composer and academic director of the Centro Superior de Música Liceo, Víctor Estapé, presents the world’s first recording of several compositions for piano written between 2011 and 2022, with the pianist Jordi Masó. Works such as Nachtstück and Doce caballeros reflect influences from the Romantic tradition and composers such as Mompou, while En sus negras aguas huye evokes atmospheres close to Ligeti and Debussy. Estapé’s work explores the legacy of the composers who have marked his career and integrates it into a language of his own, combining virtuosity and expressive depth.

VICTOR ESTAPÉ
He began his musical training at the Conservatory of Terrassa with Jordi Figueras and Maria Vancells. He has studied composition with Benet Casablancas and Josep Soler at the Conservatory of Badalona. With a scholarship from the Austrian and Spanish governments and the Generalitat de Catalunya, he furthered his studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Vienna (Austria) with Erich Urbanner (Composition), Karl-Heinz Füssl (Formal Analysis) and Diether De la Motte (Theory).
He is a regular contributor to various entities dedicated to musical education and dissemination with articles and lectures on topics of musical analysis. He has developed different studies on very heterogeneous analytical topics, among which stand out those dedicated to the music of Mompou and the harmonic language of Wagner, the subject on which his Doctoral Thesis is based, awarded with the Special Doctorate Prize of the UAB.
He is the author of numerous works for soloists, chamber, vocal and orchestral ensembles, with which he develops a personal language that seeks expression and communication, drawing conclusions from very different influences.
