The Liceu Gran Ensemble is an innovative ensemble that breaks any barrier between musical styles and genres. It is a project born from the collaboration between the Departments of Jazz and Modern Music and the Department of Orchestral Instruments. The ensemble of the Big Band is mixed in an unusual way with the string section, based on an experimental repertoire that takes the public to a special atmosphere by the hands of its director, Toni Vaquer.
In recent editions, the ensemble has stood out for its innovative, transgressive and shimmering vision in regard to the mixture of instruments and sonorities from both jazz and classical music, mixing the revision of compositions by Hermeto Pascoal, ** Vulfpeck, Jordi Bonell** or Giulia Valle, among others, with the interpretation of arrangements by the members of the group themselves, whom Toni Vaquer encourages to write their own arrangements, creating an electrifying internal cohesion.
The Liceu Jove is presented as a very attractive musical proposal that helps students fully prepare for their leap into the professional world while they are in their training period. It also provides a great opportunity for music lovers in the city to access repertoires of great interest and multiple formats (from the intimacy of chamber music to the large format of symphonic and operatic productions), as well as with a great stylistic variety (from great lyrical works to contemporary and newly created repertoire, passing through jazz and modern music).
Thanks to the patronage of the Fundació “la Caixa”, the public can have access to a wide range of music in a magnificent space, the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of Barcelona’s Raval neighborhood, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best venues of its kind in our country.
You provide the music, we bring you to the stage!
