Nduduzo Makhathini will offer a master class on November 28 at the Higher Conservatory of Music Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which within October and December 2024 will schedule master classes, meetings and concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place mainly in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.
Nduduzo Makhathini is a groundbreaking South African jazz pianist and composer recognized for his deeply spiritual and culturally resonant music. Steeped in the rich musical traditions of his homeland, Makhathini’s work blends African rhythms, jazz improvisation, and healing elements. He has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious South African Music Award, and has released critically acclaimed albums such as “Ikhambi” and “Modes of Communication: Letters from the Underworlds.”
The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 13 years with the Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.
Masterclasses such as that of Nduduzo Makhathini are one of the most important bets of the Liceu Conservatory, which enrich the academic experience of students and music lovers in our environment on their way to professionalism, allowing them to play and interact with the great masters of the current jazz scene.
