As part of the celebrations marking the 15th anniversary of the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts series, the Liceu Conservatory Foundation welcomes the singer Haydée Milanés and the double bassist Javier Colina, who will be giving a masterclass.
Javier Colina is regarded as one of the finest double bassists on the current scene, not least because of his interest in popular music and the way in which he has incorporated it into his various repertoires. Throughout his musical career, he has played with renowned jazz musicians such as Tete Montoliu, Perico Sambeat, Al Foster, Chucho Valdés and Jerry González, amongst others. For her part, Haydée Milanés is one of the most sensitive and authentic voices in contemporary Cuban music. Heir to a rich musical tradition, her work draws on influences ranging from Cuban music to Brazilian popular music and the great classics of American jazz. The two come together in a joint project, ‘A mi manera’, a work in which bolero classics and traditional Cuban trova are interwoven with Cuban rhythms and jazz.
This event forms part of Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts, the series organised by the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, which is celebrating 15 years of keeping jazz alive through masterclasses, concerts, performances by the conservatory’s students and jam sessions. The series’ masterclasses are organised in collaboration with the Barcelona Jazz Festival and with the patronage of the Ferrer Music Foundation.
