Mark Turner will offer a master class on November 8 at the Higher Center of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which from October to December 2022 will schedule 19 master classes and 26 concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.
Mark Turner is a saxophonist with a meticulous and harmonically complex approach to contemporary jazz. Drawing from the groundbreaking sound of artists like John Coltrane, Warne Marsh and Joe Henderson, Turner emerged in the early ’90s playing a classically influenced sound of his own. He made a name for himself early on with albums like In This World (1998) and Dharma Days (2001), working alongside such important contemporaries as Brad Mehldau, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Brian Blade. With Sky and Country (2009), he established a close association with the ECM label, dividing his time between collaborating with his trio Fly (with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jeff Ballard) and directing ambitious solo projects like Lathe of Heaven (2014), her 2018 duet with Ethan Iverson in Temporary Kings, as well as Return from the Stars (2022).
The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 11 years with the Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.
Masterclasses such as that of Mark Turner are one of the most important bets of the Liceu Conservatory, which enrich the academic experience of students and music lovers in our environment on their way to professionalism, allowing them to play and interact with the great masters of the current jazz scene.
Feel free to take part in this event which is part of a unique proposal in the country that wants to bring the best jazz to students and music lovers!
