Jordi Rossy will offer a master class on October 19 at the Higher Center of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which from October to December 2022 will schedule 19 master classes and 26 concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.
Jordi Rossy is internationally recognized as one of the most influential drummers of his generation. His work as a sideman includes more than 180 recordings with renowned jazz musicians such as Brad Mehldau, Ethan Iverson, Kevin Hays, Albert Sanz, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jakob Bro, Enrico Pieranunzi and Steve Swallow, among many others. Rossy has also toured with some of jazz’s greatest names such as Charlie Haden, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz, Carla Bley and Joe Lovano. In addition to his work as a drummer, Rossy has a unique and personal sound on the vibraphone, marimba and piano, and a particular aesthetic as a composer and leader of his groups.
It should be remembered that Jordi Rossy will be the protagonist of the “Portrait of the Artist” with four premiere concerts at the Conservatori Liceu, leading the trio with Robert Landfermann and Jeff Ballard (November 3), in a cooperative trio with the vocalist Carme Canela and guitarist Jaume Llombart (November 7), as sideman of guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s new adventure, a vibrant jazz reinterpretation of Chopin’s music (November 30) and as a guest soloist with the Liceu Jazz Group (October 19).
The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 11 years with the Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.
Masterclasses such as that of Jordi Rossy are one of the most important bets of the Liceu Conservatory, which enrich the academic experience of students and music lovers in our environment on their way to professionalism, allowing them to play and interact with the great masters of the current jazz scene.
