Billy Hart will offer a master class on November 16 at the Higher Center of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which from October to December 2022 will schedule 19 master classes and 26 concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.
Billy Hart (1940, Washington DC) is a jazz drummer and pedagogue who has performed with some of the most important jazz musicians in history. Hart initially performed in Washington, D.C. with soul artists such as Otis Redding and Sam & Dave, and later with Buck Hill and Shirley Horn, and shared the stage and recordings with the Montgomery Brothers (1961), with Jimmy Smith (1964-1966), and with Wes Montgomery (1966- 1968). Hart moved to New York in 1968, where he recorded with McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter, and Joe Zawinul, and played with Eddie Harris, Pharoah Sanders, and Marian McPartland. Hart was a member of the Herbie Hancock Sextet (1969-1973) and played with McCoy Tyner (1973-1974), Stan Getz (1974-1977), and Quest (1980s), in addition to an extensive number of projects as a leader.
The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 11 years with the Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.
Masterclasses such as that of Billy Hart are one of the most important bets of the Liceu Conservatory, which enrich the academic experience of students and music lovers in our environment on their way to professionalism, allowing them to play and interact with the great masters of the current jazz scene.
