Liceu Gran Ensemble will offer a concert on November 11 at the Higher Center of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which from October to December 2022 will schedule 19 master classes and 26 concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.
The Liceu Gran Ensemble is an innovative ensemble that breaks any barrier between musical styles and genres. It is a project born from the collaboration between the Departments of Jazz and Modern Music and the Department of Orchestral Instruments. The ensemble of the Big Band is mixed in an unusual way with the string section, based on an experimental repertoire that takes the public to a special atmosphere by the hands of its director, Toni Vaquer.
In recent editions, the ensemble has stood out for its innovative, transgressive and shimmering vision in regard to the mixture of instruments and sonorities from both jazz and classical music, mixing the revision of compositions by Hermeto Pascoal, ** Vulfpeck, Jordi Bonell** or Giulia Valle, among others, with the interpretation of arrangements by the members of the group themselves, whom Toni Vaquer encourages to write their own arrangements, creating an electrifying internal cohesion.
This year the Liceu Conservatory’s Carta Blanca will present four great ensembles: the Liceu Gran Ensemble, the Liceu Big Band, the Liceu BLAM Collective and the Liceu Jazz Grup. These ensembles are made up of students and directed by the teachers of the Department of Jazz and Modern Music. The Conservatori Liceu curriculum, with the practice in these projects, promotes training both in the classroom and on stage, with the aim of facilitating student access to professional experiences. Developing education in the classrooms and culture in the stages has been part of the Liceu’s DNA since its origins.
The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 11 years with the Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.
Feel free to take part in this event which is part of a unique proposal in the country that wants to bring the best jazz to students and music lovers!
