Jordi Rossy + Liceu Jazz Grup will offer a concert on October 19 at the Higher Center of the Fundació Conservatori Liceu, within the Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series, which from October to December 2022 will schedule 19 master classes and 26 concerts by renowned jazz artists, turning the city of Barcelona into the nerve center of international jazz. These activities will take place in the Auditori Conservatori Liceu, a space located in the heart of the Raval district, fully consolidated and recognized as one of the best of its kind in our country.

The Liceu Jazz Grup, is made up of some of the most outstanding students of the Conservatory, and works on a highly demanding repertoire under the direction of one of the most important Jazz musicians on the current scene, the saxophonist Bill McHenry, which in this edition of Liceu Jazz will feature the drummer Jordi Rossy.

Jordi Rossy is internationally recognized as one of the most influential drummers of his generation. His accompaniment work includes more than 180 recordings with renowned jazz musicians such as Brad Mehldau, Ethan Iverson, Kevin Hays, Albert Sanz, Mark Turner, Chris Cheek, Seamus Blake, Joshua Redman, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jakob Bro, Enrico Pieranunzi and Steve Swallow. , among many others. Rossy has also toured with some of jazz’s greatest names such as Charlie Haden, Wayne Shorter, Lee Konitz, Carla Bley and Joe Lovano. In addition to his work as a drummer, Rossy has a unique and personal sound on the vibraphone, marimba and piano, and a particular aesthetic as a composer and leader of his ensembles.

Bill McHenry is a saxophonist, composer and professor at the Conservatori Liceu. He has made 7 recordings as a leader, and is known for his work with Andrew Cyrille, Paul Motian, Eric Revis, Guillermo Klein, Andrew De Angelo, Reid Anderson, Orrin Evans, John McNeil, Ben Waltzer, Rebecca Martin, Duane Eubanks, Jamie Saft and Ethan Iverson.

It should be remembered that Jordi Rossy will be the protagonist of the “Portrait of the Artist” with four premiere concerts at the Conservatori Liceu, leading the trio with Robert Landfermann and Jeff Ballard (November 3), in a cooperative trio with the vocalist Carme Canela and guitarist Jaume Llombart (November 7), as sideman of guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s new adventure, a vibrant jazz reinterpretation of Chopin’s music (November 30) and as a guest soloist in this concert with the Liceu Jazz Group.

This year the Liceu Conservatory’s Carta Blanca will present four great ensembles: the Liceu Gran Ensemble, the Liceu Big Band, the Liceu BLAM Collective and the Liceu Jazz Grup. These ensembles are made up of students and directed by the teachers of the Department of Jazz and Modern Music. The Conservatori Liceu curriculum, with the practice in these projects, promotes training both in the classroom and on stage, with the aim of facilitating student access to professional experiences. Developing education in the classrooms and culture in the stages has been part of the Liceu’s DNA since its origins.

The Liceu Jazz – Masterclasses & Concerts concert series is part of the close collaboration that the Fundació Conservatori Liceu has maintained for 11 years with the Voll-Damm Barcelona Jazz Festival, with the patronage of the Ferrer-Salat Music Foundation.

Feel free to take part in this event which is part of a unique proposal in the country that wants to bring the best jazz to students and music lovers!
