Conductor, composer and musicologist. He holds a PhD in Musicology from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. He has taught conducting at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, served as a member of the School of Advanced Hispanic and Iberian Studies at the Casa de Velázquez (Madrid), and was Music Director of the Manuel de Falla Archive (1997–2007). Since 2011, he has been Professor of Musicology at the University of Montpellier 3 (France). His main areas of research are the analysis and history of music from the 19th to the 21st centuries and the analysis of the relationships and interactions between music and the plastic and visual arts.
He has published several books and nearly a hundred scholarly articles on Albéniz, Chopin, Debussy, Dukas, Falla, Messiaen, Ravel, Rodrigo, Schubert and Turina, in journals such as Cahiers Debussy, Recerca Musicológica and Revista de Musicología. He also contributes to the dictionary Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (MGG) and the Gran Enciclopedia Cervantina, and has edited new editions of Manuel de Falla’s works Concerto para clave, El amor brujo, El retablo de maese Pedro and El sombrero de tres picos
