The Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts has established itself as a symbol of musical excellence and a privileged space for knowledge exchange between internationally renowned musicians and creators. In this tenth edition, the series reaffirms itself as a highly relevant initiative in the musical landscape, offering students from the Conservatori Liceu a unique opportunity to learn and work with world-renowned masters through top-level training sessions. At the same time, it has become an unmissable event for music lovers in Barcelona, offering the chance to enjoy live concerts of exceptional quality.

This masterclass will be taught by Vilmos Szabadi, an internationally acclaimed Hungarian violinist, known for his exceptional performances across Europe, the United States, and other regions. He has been awarded the prestigious Franz Liszt Prize and currently he serves as the Head of the Violin Department at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest and plays a 1778 Laurentius Storioni violin.

Born in Hungary, he studied under Prof. Ferenc Halász at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, becoming the youngest member of the teaching staff upon graduation. He later trained with renowned maestros such as Sándor Végh, Ruggiero Ricci, and Loránt Fenyves.

In 1982, he won first prize at the Hungarian Radio Competition and the ‘Jenő Hubay’ competition (1983) in Budapest. In 1985, he was awarded third prize at the Jean Sibelius International Competition in Finland, where he has since performed over 100 times, including Master Classes.

He is a double winner of the MIDEM Festival in Cannes (1999, 2002) with his recordings of Dohnányi’s Violin Concertos and Bartók’s Sonata. He has also been honored with the Franz Liszt Prize (1993), the Hungaroton Prize (1999), and the PRIMA Prize as Hungary’s Musician of the Year (2012).

His international career took off when Sir Georg Solti invited him to perform Bartók’s 2nd Violin Concerto at London’s Festival Hall (1988), leading to collaborations with the Royal Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, and the RTE Concert Orchestra. He has performed in iconic venues worldwide and recorded over 59 CDs.
