Rubén Fernández Aguirre is a renowned pianist who specialized in accompanying singers in Vienna and Munich under the tutelage of Professor Wolfram Rieger.
He regularly accompanies singers such as Lisette Oropesa, Ermonela Jaho, Carlos Álvarez, Sabina Puértolas, Nuria Rial, Ismael Jordi, Marina Monzó, Carmen Solís, Jose Antonio López, Vanessa Goikoetxea, Miren Urbieta, David Alegret, Nancy Fabiola Herrera, Berna Perles, Joan Martín-Royo, Carol García and Carmen Romeu. She has given recitals with Sonya Yoncheva, Javier Camarena, Martina Serafin, Andreas Schager, Ruth Iniesta, Carlos Chausson, Serena Sáenz, Celso Albelo, Sara Blanch, David Menéndez, Hera Hyesang Park, Jihoon Son, Maite Beaumont, José Bros, Measha Brüggergosman, Martin Nusspaumer and Ángeles Blanca. She has also performed with Mariella Devia, Cristina Gallardo-Domâs, Leontina Vaduva, Ainhoa Arteta, María Bayo, Mariola Cantarero, María José Montiel and Isabel Rey, among others.
He has performed in numerous Spanish Theatres and Festivals, as well as in the Staatsoper and Musikverein in Vienna, ROF in Pesaro, Savonlinna and Bregenz Festival, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Smetana Hall in Prague, Opernhaus Zürich, Gulbenkian in Lisbon, Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, Slovak Radio Bratislava, Budapest Opera, Carnegie Hall in New York, Seoul Arts Center, Teatro Solís in Montevideo, Usina del Arte, CCK in Buenos Aires, Guadalajara, Álamos Sonora, Dubai, Damascus and Algiers.
He has accompanied courses and master classes by Teresa Berganza, Renata Scotto, Jaume Aragall, Ileana Cotrubaş, Ramon Vargas and Frederica von Stade. He has been official pianist of ‘Operalia’ (chaired by Plácido Domingo) and jury member of the International Singing Competitions of Bilbao, Logroño and Bogotá.
A fosterer of Spanish Musical Heritage, he has recovered the five salon operas by the Sevillian Manuel García and his discography includes ‘Granados Songs Integral’, ‘Carlos Álvarez Live in La Monnaie’, ‘Canciones en la Alhambra’, ‘Ametsetan’, ‘Carneriana’, ‘La Seduzione’, ‘Los cisnes en Palacio’ and ‘Pedrell songs’ (Ibs), integral of songs by Antón García Abril (Bolamar Music) and ‘Ensueños’ (AIM Records).
He is an honorary Patron of the Victoria de los Ángeles Fundation, in 2010 he received the Ópera Actual award ‘for his dedication to opera and the growing prestige he is achieving in this field’.
