The Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is a benchmark of musical excellence and a space for knowledge exchange between the world’s most renowned performers and creators. In this tenth edition, the series reaffirms itself as one of the most significant initiatives in its field, once again providing a unique opportunity for students of the Conservatori Liceu to work with internationally acclaimed masters. At the same time, it is an unmissable event for music lovers in Barcelona, who will have the chance to enjoy top-level live performances.
This proposed masterclass will be led by Nick Deutsch, a prestigious internationally renowned oboist and educator.
Born in Israel, grew up in Sydney, Australia, where he began his musical studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and graduated with distinction from the Victorian College of the Arts. His outstanding academic career was recognised with the ‘Gwen Nisbet’ award for the most outstanding student. Thanks to an «MSOS» scholarship he continued his studies in Germany with Diethelm Jonas at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Trossingen.
As principal oboe, he has worked with leading orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, the Munich Philharmonic, the Bayreuth Festspiel Orchestra, the Radio Orchestras of Cologne (WDR), Stuttgart (SWR), Frankfurt (HR), Berlin (RSB and DSO), and the Opera orchestra’s of Berlin, Munich, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Cologne and Oslo, under conductors such as Zubin Mehta, James Levine, Kurt Masur, Lorin Maazel, Gustavo Dudamel, Semyon Bychkov, Ivan Fischer, Daniel Harding and many more. He also regularly collaborates with different ensembles, such as the Ensemble Modern, the Capella Andrea Barca (Andras Schiff Ensemble), the Chamber Orchestras of Munich, Stuttgart and Heilbronn, the Salzburg Camerata, the Klangverwaltung München, the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, the Bach Collegium Stuttgart and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also been a member of the Budapest Festival Orchestra from 2002 to 2011.
As a soloist he has performed with numerous orchestras, including the Salzburg Camerata, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Bach Orchestra, the Georgian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra, the Real Filharmonia de Galicia, the Polish Chamber Orchestra, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, the Orquesta Nacional de México. An active chamber musician, he is a founding member of the Hindemith Quintet and works intensively with the Linos Ensemble.
As a teacher, he has been a guest professor at prestigious music institutions such as the Conservatoire National Superier du Musique (Paris), the Royal College of Music (London), the Royal Academy of Music (London), the Gnessin School of Music (Moscow), the Hong Kong Academy of Music, the Bern Academy of Music, the Buchman Mehta School of Music (Tel Aviv) and gives masterclasses all over the world. He currently teaches oboe at the Hochschule für Musik – Felix Mendelsohnn Bartholdy in Leipzig.
