The Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts cycle offers the finest selection of masterclasses by leading international figures in the fields of creation and performance. This year, it celebrates its tenth edition as a consolidated pedagogical and artistic initiative, bringing students from the Conservatori Liceu closer to great masters and becoming a reference point for music lovers in Barcelona.
On this occasion, the masterclass will be taught by clarinetist Michel Lethiec, considered one of the leading figures on the international music scene. He is a very dynamic performer on the concert and festival stages, and is also passionate about teaching. He is very active in repertoire research and dissemination, both as a performer and as a programme designer.
As an enthusiastic interpreter of the music of our time, he has premiered numerous works and concertos, including works by Penderecki, Corigliano, Denisow, Maratka, Ballif, Landowski, Decoust, Dalbavie, Fourchotte, Risset, Scolari, Narita, Brotons, Hersant, Giraud, Lee, Ryu, among others.
His important discography, for Lyrinx, Naxos, Arion, RCA, Bis, Talento, Actas Sur, includes two major recording awards and previously unreleased recordings of Krzysztof Penderecki’s concertos and chamber music, Porgy & Bess, Preludes, Gershwin’s Concerto in F in an arrangement by Frank Villard for clarinet and strings, Golijov’s Isaac the blind’s Tears and Prayers with string quartet (live recording).
A renowned pedagogue, he is honorary professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, professor at the Conservatoire de Nice, regularly gives master classes at prestigious foreign institutions and participates in juries of international competitions.
Founder of the Prades International Chamber Music Academy, Artistic Director of the Pablo Casals Festival for decades, he has hosted every summer the greatest chamber musicians and their students, with original programmes presented at the Abbey of Saint-Michel de Cuxa, as well as at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and in several other capitals such as Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Puerto Rico. He is a Knight of the National Order of Merit and of the Order of Arts and Letters of France.
