Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts is synonymous with great music and musical wisdom shared by the greatest performers and creators. This concert series reaches its ninth edition this year, reaffirming itself as one of the most interesting initiatives of its kind, and, as always expected, a meeting point for the students of the Higher Center of the Liceu Conservatory with the great international masters, and as an appointment for music lovers from Barcelona with the best music.
Born in Ekaterinburg, Elena Pankratova studied conducting and piano in her hometown and later graduated with honours as a singer and actress at the St. Petersburg State Conservatory. She has won several international singing competitions in Italy and Spain and has been polishing her Italian repertoire roles for years with the great soprano Renata Scotto.
A turning point in her career has been her debut as Barak’s wife in Richard Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schatten (The Woman Without a Shadow), conducted by Zubin Mehta at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino in 2010.
Since then, she has sung at international theatres such as Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House in London, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg, Semper Oper in Dresden, as well as at the Bayreuth Festival. In fact, she has been the first Russian soprano to sing at the Wagnerian festival, where between 2016 and 2019 she has participated as Kundry, and in 2019 as Ortrud (Lohengrin).
Her repertoire also includes roles such as Odabella (Attila), Leonora (La forza del destino), Leonora (Il trovatore), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Abigaille (Nabucco), Turandot, Elektra, Leonore (Fidelio), Tosca, Norma, Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos, Ariadne in Naxos) and Senta (Der Fliegende Holländer, The Flying Dutchman), among others.
