Liceu Cambra Masterclasses & Concerts has established itself as a benchmark of musical excellence, offering a unique space for the exchange of ideas between the most prestigious creators and performers worldwide. In its tenth edition, the cycle reaffirms its significance as one of the most outstanding initiatives in its field, becoming an essential meeting place for both students of the Conservatori Liceu and internationally renowned teachers. Furthermore, this cycle is a key event for music lovers in Barcelona, where they can enjoy a selection of live performances of the highest quality.
This masterclass will feature Daniel Stabrawa, a Polish violinist of great international prestige. He has been the concertmaster of the Berliner Philharmoniker for thirty-five years. In the era of four of its chief conductors —Karajan, Abbado, Rattle and Petrenko— he has given oven fifteen hundred concerts with the orchestra, counting Berlin alone. Frequently, he has also performed as a soloist, in the Prokofiev, Mozart, Beethoven, Szymanowski and Jenő Hubay violin concertos, among others.
Born in 1955 in Kraków, Daniel Stabrawa studied at the Musikhochschule in his hometown with Zbigniew Szlezer. During his youth, he won numerous international competitions and in 1979 he was concertmaster of the Kraków Radio Orchestra. In 1983 he joined the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and, three years later, he was appointed first concertmaster, a post previously held by Michel Schwalbé.
In 1985, Daniel Stabrawa founded the Philharmonia Quartet, together with three colleagues from the orchestra, of which he was first violin for many years. The violinist has also performed chamber music with Yefim Bronfman, Murray Perahia, Emmanuel Ax, Rafał Blechacz and Nigel Kennedy, to name a few, as well as with his wife, the pianist Elżbieta Stepien-Stabrawa.
Between 1986 and 2000 Stabrawa taught at the Karajan Academy of the Berliner Philharmoniker. As a conductor, he has been in charge of the Capella Bydgostiensis in Bydgoszcz.
