Born in Offenburg (Germany), he received his musical training from Francesco Raselli in Basel, Mahir Cakar in Stuttgart and Prof. Erich Penzel in Cologne. At an early age, he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation and won prestigious prizes such as the “Tonger” Competition at the Musikhochschule Köln, the Markneukirchen International Instrumental Competition and the German Music Competition in Bonn.
He gained his first orchestral experience in the German National Youth Orchestra, the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie and the EUYO.
From 1989 to 1996, he was principal horn with the Frankfurt Opera Orchestra and from 1996 to 2005 he held the same position with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra. Also in 1996, he was appointed principal horn in the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra.
In addition to his solo activities, is particularly dedicated to chamber music. He regularly performs in various renowned ensembles, including Hr-Brass, German Brass, Linos Ensemble and Antares Ensemble and he has recorded several CDs with the Avalon Wind Quintet.
Following five years as a lecturer at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt, he took over the horn class at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel in 2002 and was appointed professor of horn at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart in 2004. Currently, he is professor at the Hochschule der Künste Bern, where he works in Bern and Basel.
