Additionally, it has become a must-attend event for music lovers in Barcelona, where they can enjoy the highest quality artistic offerings.
Blai Gumí will lead this masterclass dedicated to the double bass. Despite his youth, Gumí is a distinguished double bassist in the world of classical and chamber music. His significance lies in his exceptional technique, musical depth, and ability to interpret both classical and contemporary repertoires with great expressiveness. He has been recognized for his musical maturity and his ability to convey emotion through the double bass, an instrument that is often less featured compared to other string instruments.
Blai Gumí was born into a family of musicians in 1997, he began studying double bass at the age of five with Oriol Martí and Xavier Puertas and, later, at the City Conservatory in Barcelona. He studied further at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München, where he was a student of Nabil Shehata, Wies de Boevé and Philipp Stubenrauch.
He has won a place at the Bavarian State Opera Academy (2017-2019) and subsequently at the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra (2019-2020).
His musical activity extends beyond this orchestras, as he actively collaborates as first double bass with other leading ensembles, such as the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Utopia Orchestra.
As a soloist, he has given performances with prestigious orchestras such as the National Youth Orchestra of Andorra, the Chamber Orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera, the Regensburg Chamber Orchestra and the Bratislava Chamber Orchestra, thanks to which he has consolidated his presence on stages all over the world.
In February 2020, he was appointed principal double bass of the orchestra of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, becoming the youngest member of the orchestra.
