Last 20th of July, the General Consulate of Colombia in Barcelona, in collaboration with the Conservatori Liceu Foundation, presented the Binational Concert Spain and Colombia: «INQUEBRANTABLE LINKS» by the Colombian conductor Eliana Echeverry and the Liceu Big Band of the Conservatori Liceu. The singer-songwriter Angélica López participated as special guests.
The Liceu Big Band performed songs from the Caribbean coast, the eastern plains, the Colombian Pacific and the Andean region, arranged expressly for the occasion and for the band by the Colombian composer and conductor Eliana Echeverry, winner of the Banco de la República Young Talents Award.
The event was presented jointly by the Director General of the Conservatori Liceu Foundation, Maria Serrat, and the Consul of Colombia, María Paula Martínez. Among the authorities attending the event, the Government Subdelegate in Barcelona, Josefa Beltrán Bertomeu, emphasized the importance of music as a bridge between countries and the enormous cultural variety that the Colombian community brings to Catalonia. Along the same lines, the regular director of the Liceu Big Band, Sergi Vergés, highlighted the educational success of the concert. Thanks to this project, the members of the Big Band of the Conservatori Liceu have been able to learn and assimilate traditional Colombian rhythms, incorporate them into their own training and broaden their musical horizons. The concert was attended by a massive audience that filled the Auditori of the Conservatori Liceu.
The main objective of this binational Spain-Colombia activity was to promote cultural exchange between the two countries and is part of the Collaboration Programme with Colombia, initiated in 2002 by the Fundació Conservatori Liceu. This programme involves academic and artistic activities that include exchanges of teachers and students, as well as the development of joint cultural initiatives. Specifically, this concert has been possible with the support of the Conservatori Liceu Fundacion and the Grupo Bastón de Oro led by its general director, Dacha Jiménez.
