The second edition of the International Lyrical Corsican Opera Competition now has its winners. Among the winners, the Syrian soprano Aseel Massoud, who sang at the St. Michel church accompanied by the prestigious pianist Ricardo Francia in corsican.
Aseel Massoud is a student from the Centre Superior at the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, with the teacher Carmen Bustamante.
Every year, professional singers of all nationalities take part in the “Concurs International d’Òpera Corsica Lírica” organised by the Municipality of Ghisonaccia and the Opera Veritás association, to perform in front of the jury.
In this second edition, there were 2,500 applications, 41 semi-finalists, 20 finalists and 13 selected to sing in the final concert. For the first time, the finalists were obliged to perform a piece in corsican, from a selection proposed by the organisers.
The jury was formed by the president of the jury Rita Ahonen, Jean Paul Grisoni, professor of opera singing at the Paris Opera, the tenor and director of the festival “Saoû chante Mozart” Jean Delectuse, the founder of the competition and mezzo-soprano Katerina Kovanji and finally, the artistic director and Italian mezzo-soprano Marguarita Rodondi.
From the Liceu Conservatory Foundation, we congratulate Aseel Massoud for this recognition and we wish her good luck and success in her musical career as a soprano.
