Spanish piano music with Albert Attenelle
The Master in Classical and Contemporary Music Performance aims to provide the students with a distinct artistic personality, and for this reason, they are encouraged to choose a repertoire that suits better their musical background, preferences and projects.
The Master students with Piano as their speciality have the option to focus specially on Spanish Piano Music under the guidance of Albert Attenelle .
What we call Spanish Music has had in Catalonia, more specifically in Barcelona city, one of its most important centers of development, as demonstrate by names of composers such as Albéniz, Granados, Mompou, Gerhard or Montsalvatge, and performers as well, such as Albéniz, Granados or Mompou themselves, Frank Marshall, Alicia de Larrocha, Montserrat Caballé or Victoria de los Ángeles, among many others.
A significant number of professors of the Liceu Conservatory faculty are indeed linked with the most important traditions of the performance of Spanish Music. We consider it to be a duty of our Conservatory to offer specialized studies that enable a deeper insight and continuity of this tradition, which is an artistic heritage of the utmost importance, and also to give students who feel close to this repertoire the chance to study it with the best teachers.
Albert Attenelle studied with Frank Marshall (a disciple of Granados) in Barcelona and with Marcel Ciampi in Paris. His career as a soloist and chamber music performer ranges over European, American, Near Eastern and Japanese stages, where he has played many concerts with important orchestras. His repertoire covers music of all styles.
He has published an Urtext edition of Albéniz’s Iberia Suite and, in 2005, he was awarded the Isaac Albéniz Medal for his contribution to disseminate the composer’s work. Attenelle’s recent recordings of Albéniz’s La Vega and Iberia, Granados’ Goyescas and Mompou’s Música Callada,Variaciones sobre un tema de Chopin and Suburbis with the label Columna Música, have been acclaimed by the specialized press. He is professor at the Liceu Conservatory since 2006. Albert Attenelle is also founder and director of L’Escola de Música de Barcelona, and artistic advisor of Barcelona Piano Academy.
He is called regularly to participate as a jury in several national and international competitions, as well as in Performance Courses.
