Master Program Specialization in Chamber Music Performance

The Master Program in Chamber Music Performance in the Liceu Conservatory is aimed to graduates with a Bachelor's or equivalent degree from an institution of higher musical education in the corresponding specialization. The Program provides an Official Master Degree within the European Higher Education Area, according to the Royal Decree-Law 1614/2009, of the 26th of October, that regulates the Higher Artistic Education system in accordance with the Organic Law for Education of the 3rd of May.
The main objective of the Master Program in Chamber Music Performance is for the students to create their own experience of the most representative repertoire of the chamber formation in which they want to specialise, deepening in a particular specialisation area, so that they achieve the inherent knowledge and abilities of a high level performer with a defined artistic personality.
The Master Program in Chamber Music Performance offers the opportunity of developing a musical specialization and achieving a personality as a performer which gives the students who complete successfully the Master Program, many options in the professional world, either as performers or as teachers.
The enrollment to the Master Program in Chamber Music Performance will be made in complete groups corresponding to the following formations:
- String Quartet
- Trio with Piano
- String Trio
- Piano and Violin Duo
- Piano and Cello Duo
- Piano Duo and/or Piano four hands
- Guitar Duo
- Saxophone Quartet
- Wind Quintet
Other formations can be included. They will be accepted depending on their interest and the tradition of their repertoire.
The Master Program in Chamber Music Performance will comprise the following subjects:

The groups will carry out their work preferably with the groups within the centre. An individual enrollment can be requested, however the centre has the right to admit the students according to the formations availability. The individual students will be grouped in formations as suggested by the Master director.
At the beginning of the Master Program, the students, with the advice of the academic tutor, will design a performance project, with an ensemble repertoire that fulfills the criteria stablished by the objectives of the Program. The repertoire will be performed at a final concert and therefore be focused on a concrete area of the repertoire, that will be chosen taking into account the artistic personality of the students.
The students will also obtain a complementary theoretical formation given by specialists in the areas of composition, history analysis and music aesthetics, which will enable the Master students the development of a more complex knowledge of the pieces to perform and a higher conscience of their stylistic characteristics and their cultural implication, with the final aim of being able to perform in a richer and multidimensional manner.
The class work will be based on the students own repertoire, giving the subject a personalized and practical character.
The work carried out during the academic year will be presented at a Final Chamber Music Concert in the Conservatory Concert Halls.
Music Business is a subject that brings the professional of the most representative sectors of music business, such as journalists, managers, concert promoters, marketing, entrepreneurs, etc. offering the student a global vision of the real professional world that they will encounter at the end of their studies.
The Analysis Seminar consists on the study of the structure and formal and aesthetics characteristics of the main pieces of the repertoire to help the student accomplish a more adequate performance according to the expressive content of the piece.
The Master includes a Final Essay under the direction of professionals which will help define and express in a coherent way the ideas of the students on their repertoire, while developing their abilities to communicate the content and the results of their work as performers to different publics.
An Official Master Degree Diploma in Chamber Music Performance will be awarded to the students that finish the program successfully, with the different advantages it brings along, amongst them, the possibility of entering an Artistic PhD Program.
The Faculty comprises music experts with great experience in concert activity in the interpretation of the repertoire of the Chamber Formations offered at the Program.
